Divorce to handle medical debt
QuoteReply
Greetings all!

We are underinsured in medical insurance (it was the best policy my husband's employer offered) and my husband has had three operations in the last year and take SS earlier than he wanted as he has been unable to work due to his health. We are deeply in medical debt and living off my private income + my income from a PT job. I am deeply discouraged by the amount of debt we have due to my husband's medical bills.

I had thought a possible way out would be an uncontested divorce wherein he assumes all the debt. He could then declare bankruptcy. His credit would be bad, but mine would still be good and we could function. We would still live together as I am personally loyal. I am just trying to think of a way out of this debt that does not ruin both of our credit. I would still be basically supporting him if he remains unable to work, but at least we would not have this crushing debt and I would not be liable for any further medical bills he may incur until he is eligible for Medicare in a year.

What do you think?
